How it works
Three benefits. One coordinated plan.
Most Veterans turning 65 are handed three separate systems and left to figure out how they overlap. Here's how they actually fit together — and where the money is won or lost.
The building blocks
What each piece actually does
Each one covers something the others don't. The value isn't in any single benefit — it's in the coordination.
- 1
Your civilian care network
Medicare Advantage Plan
Access civilian doctors and hospitals through your primary care group and in-network specialists. You choose your primary care physician.
- 2
Your gap filler
TRICARE For Life
Pays what Medicare doesn't — most co-pays and deductibles — plus prescription coverage, so you're not left with a large bill.
- 3
Your service-connected care
VA Healthcare
Service-connected and specialty care, including at-home personal care services for Veterans who need assistance, regardless of disability rating.

You decide
No pressure and no obligation. You choose what to do with what you have learned — appointments are only ever set when you ask for one.
Where the savings come from
What proper integration is worth
- TRICARE For Life covers most Medicare co-pays and deductibles.
- Many of the Medicare Advantage Plans available to Veterans carry no additional monthly premium beyond the Medicare Part B premium, which applies to everyone enrolled.
- The VA covers service-connected care and at-home personal care services for eligible Veterans, in most cases at no cost.
- Prescription coverage typically comes through TRICARE For Life or the VA at little or no cost to Veterans.
An example we see every week
Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel — Civilian doctor visit
John, 68, retired Army, needs to see his civilian cardiologist for routine heart monitoring.
- His Medicare Advantage Plan pays the cardiologist for specialty care.
- TRICARE For Life pays his co-pays and deductibles.
- TRICARE For Life pays for his prescriptions.
Often little or nothing at the visit
Rather than a separate monthly health insurance premium, an office co-pay, a deductible, and the full cost of prescriptions.
An illustration of a situation we see often — not a quote or a guarantee of coverage. Your costs depend on your eligibility, your plan, and the care you receive.
Medicare Part B carries a premium, which applies to everyone enrolled. Some Medicare Advantage Plans may help reduce that cost, and for those eligible, TRICARE For Life can pick up much of what Medicare leaves. What you actually pay depends on your eligibility, the plan you choose, and the care you receive. Nothing here is a quote or a guarantee of coverage.

Common questions
Questions we hear every week
Do I need Medicare Part B for TRICARE For Life?
Yes. You need to enroll in Medicare Part B to qualify for TRICARE For Life and for Medicare Advantage Plans.
Can I use Medicare and VA benefits together?
Yes. You can use Medicare and VA benefits together — that includes seeing civilian doctors for your care while still using the VA. VA prescriptions are often available at little or no cost, though what you pay depends on your eligibility and priority group. We'll go through your own situation with you.
Do I need Medicare Part D if I use the VA pharmacy?
Generally no. If you get your prescriptions through the VA pharmacy or TRICARE For Life, both are considered creditable prescription drug coverage, so a separate Part D plan is usually unnecessary. We will walk through your specific prescriptions with you before you decide.
How quickly will you respond to my message?
We aim to get back to you within four hours on business days if you leave a message or a voicemail.
What is the process for enrolling in Medicare?
We guide you through the entire Medicare enrollment process, making sure you understand each step and can make informed decisions. Our goal is to simplify the process and help you find the best options for your healthcare needs.
What VA benefits am I eligible for?
We help you determine your eligibility for VA benefits, including healthcare and disability compensation. Personalized guidance helps ensure you receive the benefits you are entitled to.
How does TRICARE For Life work with Medicare?
TRICARE For Life works as a supplement to Medicare. Once you are enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B, TRICARE For Life covers remaining costs, giving you comprehensive coverage.
What does this cost me?
Nothing. Consultations and education sessions are free, with no hidden fees and no obligation. We are licensed insurance agents and are compensated by the plan if — and only if — you choose to enroll in one.
